The very first season of the show was aired on Sony TV as on October 30, 2004 and the grand finale was schedule in March 2005 which was won by the Abhijeet Sawant who belongs to Mumbai while the Amit Sana becomes the first runner up of the show. There were total 12 contestants in season 1. Abhijit Sawant lift up the winner trophy and also won the cash prize of Rs. 50 Lakh along with that an album contract with T-Series.
After winning this show, he released his first music album called AapKaAbhijeet. He also participated in a similar reality singing competition, which selects an outstanding singer in the whole of Asia and emerged as the third best singer. He has released another Album called Junoon and also done playback singing in the film AshiqBanayaApne. He has sung jingles for commercials and has also made his debut in the film industry through the movie Lottery in 2009.

Indian Idol Season 3 Winner – Prashant Tamang [2007]
The Season 3 of Indian idol was aired from May 2007 to September 2007 on the Sony TV. While, Mini Mathur was retained as the host, Amman Verma was replaced by Hussain Kuwajerwala. Anu Malik, Javed Akthar, Alisha Chinai and Udit Narayan were the four eminent personalities who judged the show and chose Prashant Tamang, a Nepali who hails from Kolkata in West Bengal, as the winner. After he emerged as the winner, Prashant Tamang honoured his contract with Sony and released a solo album called Dhanyabad. He also entered into a contract with Sony BMG, along with 4 other finalists, Meiyang Chang, Abhishek, Parleen and Suhit Goshan and they named the boy band as F 4 and released an album named TuTo Na Aayi. The Uud Chale song of this band was a huge success and they were acknowledged as the next big thing on Channel V.
